About CCEA2019

The Culture City of East Asia project is an initiative of Japan, China, and the ROK based on the agreement of the ministers of culture of the respective governments. Cities working towards the development through culture and arts are selected from among the three countries, and numerous cultural and artistic events are held accordingly in the areas of modern and traditional culture and arts as well as the diverse culture of daily life. The project aims to promote the formation of mutual understanding and a sense of solidarity in the East Asia region while strengthening the ability to promote the diverse cultures of East Asia to the world.

Cities selected as a Culture City of East Asia also leverage their unique cultural characteristics as an opportunity to strive towards continuous development by promoting the invigoration of culture and the arts, creative industries, and tourism through this project.
